A Note About Gordon Street

If you have directions from a website other than this one to Shine Salon, check them for mention of a "Gordon Street." It might be there, it might not.

If it is:

DO NOT look for Gordon Street off of Central Ave.

DO look for Pecan St off of Central Ave.

Instead of turning onto Gordon, turn onto Pecan, then take a left onto Commonwealth Ave. Shine will be on your right.

Shine Salon is located in the Plaza Midwood area of Charlotte, NC. We're on the corner of Pecan St. and Commonwealth Ave just off ofCentral Ave..

From I-77 Northbound
  • Take exit 9B on to i-277N
  • Get off on exit 2A
  • Take a right at the end of the ramp onto 3rd Street. (Since it's a one-way to one way intersection, you might want to stay in the middle lane since the next thing you're going to do is. . .)
  • Take a left onto King's Drive about a block down the street. (If you're fabulous, you've already noticed that King's Drive turns into Central Avenue. Do not panic. This is supposed to happen.)
  • Next, take a right onto Pecan from Central Ave. From Pecan, take a left onto Commonwealth. You'll see Shine Salon on your right.

From I-77 Southbound

  • Get on interstate 77 south headed into town if you're coming from north of Uptown Charlotte.
  • Take exit 11 and get onto interstate 277 south.
  • Take the Brevard St. / Davidson St. / McDowell St. exit (we promise the sign does actually say all that) off of 277. Mind the light at the end of the ramp.
  • You are now on 11th street. Head down about a half a mile and the road will start to curve to the right.
  • Take a LEFT onto 10th Street.
    10th street merges into Central Avenue after this (harmless) five-way intersection. It happens suddenly, so if you look up and realize that you are suddenly no longer on 10th and are instead on Central, do not panic. This is supposed to happen. When you cross some train-tracks, you'll take a right at the next light.
  • Take a right on Pecan St. The intersection of Central and Pecan has a CVS pharmacy to your right and a very small Dairy Queen on your left.
  • Go a block and take a left onto Commonwealth Ave.
  • Shine Salon will be on your immediate right. It's a light blue building with lots of cars parked around it.

From Matthews / Mint Hill
  • Getting here from the Matthews / Mint Hill area is pretty straightforward. Get on Monroe Road headed into Charlotte.
  • A short ways after you've crossed Wendover (which is Eastway on the other side of Independence) you'll cross over some train tracks. At that point you'll be on 7th Street. You DO NOT have to make a turn.
  • You will eventually come to the intersection of 7th and Pecan, you'll want to take a RIGHT. There's a huge water-tower about a block away on your right if you're a landmark kind of person.
  • Head up Pecan and you'll cross some more railroad tracks and you'll go under and overpass (Independence Blvd). Take a RIGHT onto Commonwealth right after the overpass and you'll see Shine on your right just up the street.

From South Park
  • From the South Park area, get on Sharon Road headed north.
  • Take a RIGHT onto Wendover.
  • The next major intersection will be Wendover and Providence. Take a LEFT onto Providence Road.
  • Now, for those of you who don't know, this next turn coming up is the most infamous intersection in Charlotte. At the intersection of Queens Road and Providence Road, you will take a RIGHT off of Providence, onto Providence (honest). DO NOT GO STRAIGHT. If you go straight, you will be on Queens Road and while it's very pretty, that's not where you want to be.
  • Go straight up Providence for a few blocks until you start getting close to Presbyterian Hospital. At the intersection of Providence and Caswell there's right-hand turn lane with a yeild sign. Take a RIGHT onto Caswell, but don't forget to yield.
  • Continue up Caswell until you hit the intersection with 7th Street. Go STRAIGHT across the intersection and that will put you on Pecan Street. You'll want to be in the left-hand lane since you can't go straight from the right lane.
  • Head up Pecan and you'll cross some more railroad tracks and you'll go under and overpass (Independence Blvd). Take a RIGHT onto Commonwealth right after the overpass and you'll see Shine on your right just up the street.
